Name: The Cinder Path
Location: Entrance to the Cinder Path is located
just inside the city limits of Chariton,
Iowa on US Hwy 34. (next to Hardee’s Restaurant)

Description: The Cinder Path
measures 100 feet wide and 13.5 miles - from Chariton
to Humeston. The Cinder Path is an abandoned railroad right-of-way of
Burlington Northern Railroad Company and is the first Rails-To-Trails
area in the state of Iowa.

Name: Red Haw State
Park
Location: One mile east of Chariton, IA on US Hwy 34
Description: Red Haw State Park takes its name from the Hawthorn tree, which produces red
berries in the fall, but it is the Redbud trees for which the park is
famous. Each spring, the delicate pink blossoms of the Red Bud trees create
a pastel haze and set the stage for the popular Red Bud Festival, a time
of ceremonial tree plantings, art fairs and other events at the park,
which features a 72-acre lake, 80 campsites and four miles of hiking trails
set among gently-rolling hills.

Name: Pin Oak Marsh and Educational Lodge
Location: Two miles south of Chariton on Highway 14
Description: Nestled near the
Chariton River in Lucas County, Iowa, Pin Oak Marsh is a haven for wildlife
and people. The marsh is home to great blue herons, Canada
geese, frogs, Iowa's threatened
river otter, and host to spectacular displays of migrating waterfowl in
the spring and fall. Pin Oak Marsh has white pelicans and prairie grasses
and trees like the ones that covered the area when the pioneer settlers
arrived. It has trails for hikers and a pier so that human visitors can
get out and be a part of nature.

Location and Description: More than 11,000
acres in six sections are located in Lucas

Lovilia is located ten miles north of Albia off of Hwy 137.
Description:
No wake lake. There is a boat dock, and a handicapped dock as well.
Call in advance to reserve cabins, camp sites or shelter houses-park closes
at 10 pm. Feed the elk and deer, boat, fish, hunt, hike and bike, and
camp. Camping options: Camp at the campsite or stay in the cabins. Two
picnic shelter houses are available - one is open on the sides and the
other in enclosed with a fireplace for grilling out. You can fish year
around and stay at the cabins year around.
